5A GIRLS SOCCER STATE TOURNAMENT
BOISE 3, TIMBERLINE 2: The No. 2-seeded Brave mounted a second-half rally to avoid a first-round upset from the No. 7-seeded Wolves on Thursday at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls.
Kunie Hirai pulled Boise (17-1-0) even in the 60th minute, taking a pass from Mia Barron to the end line around the defense before beating the goalkeeper. Freshman Grace Hatch then scored the game-winner in the 77th minute, turning a flicked-on header from Ellie Otradosky into a breakaway and the decisive goal.
“For us, it was just a refocus and get back to what we do well,” Boise coach Nicole Arsenault said. “There’s always a little bit of nerves going into state. I would describe that first half as more tentative and reactionary, and we know that isn’t our preferred style of play.”
Boise advances to face Rocky Mountain in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday at Bonneville High.
Timberline opened the scoring when Laken Gallagher converted a corner kick from Morgan Kearney. The Wolves then made it 2-1 when Elli Lewis struck in the 26th minute.
Timberline (11-5-4) will face Highland (13-4-2) in a consolation semifinal at 9 a.m. Friday.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN WINS ON PKS: The Grizzlies edged Highland 5-4 in a shootout after a 3-3 draw.
Senior Kaitlyn Slocum scored twice to lead a late Rocky Mountain (15-4-0) rally. She forced overtime with a strike in the 75th minute off a Campbell Wilson assist. The two also connected for a goal in the 18th minute.
Slocum, Molly Harrison, Kate Majors, Allie Brown and Makenna Doremus all converted their spot kicks as Rocky Mountain shooters went 5-for-5. And Bea Levi turned away one Highland shot to send the Grizzlies back to the semifinals for the seventh straight year.
CENTENNIAL 1, EAGLE 0: Senior Asia Lawyer broke a scoreless tie in the 83rd minute, receiving a throw-in at her feet, dribbling through a host of Eagle defenders and putting the game-winning goal into the corner of the net.
“You need a big-time player to step up in a big-time moment, and that’s definitely her,” Centennial coach Olly Frick said.
Kaiya Pardue made five saves for the shutout as No. 5 Centennial (13-4-3) returned to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. The Patriots will face Lake City at 3 p.m. Friday.
No. 4 Eagle (14-4-1) drops into a consolation semifinal against Thunder Ridge at 11 a.m.

SANDPOINT 3, VALLIVUE 1: Vallivue goalkeeper Katie Kaba turned away nine shots, but the perennial power from North Idaho put the Falcons’ net under siege.
Freshman Amanda Soto scored the lone goal for Vallivue (11-7-1), her 12th of the season. The Falcons fall into a consolation semifinal against Canyon Ridge (12-3-3) at 11 a.m. Mountain time Saturday at Real Life Field in Post Falls.
Sandpoint (9-5-2) will face No. 3 Twin Falls (15-2-2) at 3 p.m. The Bruins beat Canyon Ridge 3-1.
Bishop Kelly 4, Shelley 0: Four different Knights found the back of the net, helping No. 1-seeded Bishop Kelly (15-2-1) breeze by No. 8 Shelley (9-8-3).
Kate Jaques led the way with a goal and an assist. Halle Hatten, Sophie Schmautz and Gracie Rhodes also scored as part of a 15-4 shot advantage.
“I think it just shows how dangerous we can be on the attack,” Bishop Kelly coach Dawn Hill said. “We don’t depend on one or two players, and we have a lot of dangerous players who can finish. The goals scored had some great combinations and then great finishes.”
Margaret Smock and Taylor Deitzel also added assists for the Knights. Goalkeeper Brooklyn Robertson led the Russets with six saves.
Bishop Kelly will face No. 3 Pocatello (15-5-1) in the semifinals tomorrow at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.

Madelyn Hardy made nine saves as Fruitland (15-2-1) held off a late Teton charge. Teton scored its final goal in the 79th minute.
