One of the state’s most feared hitters led Skyview to back-to-back 5A state softball championships this spring. And on Thursday, Delaney Keith capped her high school career with back-to-back Gatorade player of the year awards.

The award recognizes the state’s top player across all classifications. She’s the first Idaho player to win it two years in a row since Eagle’s Bradie Fillmore in 2015 and 2016.

The 5-9 senior shortstop led the Hawks (30-2) to a state title defense, hitting .596 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs. She scored 73 runs, stole 18 bases and struck out only four times in 104 at-bats.

“She can hit the ball hard regardless of its location,” Owyhee coach Tess Martin said in a news release. “Looking at her spray chart will show you that she hits the ball hard to any part of the field.”

The Coastal Carolina signee had a 3.86 GPA and volunteered for multiple community service projects through her church youth group.

Other recent Gatorade players of the year include Ridgevue’s Gracie Walters (2020), Rocky Mountain’s Kaylan Walker (2019), Middleton’s Lainey Lyle (2018) and Meridian’s Lexi Knauss (2017).

Gatorade named Idaho Falls’ Merit Jones as its baseball player of the year last week. It plans to announce players of the year in boys soccer on June 16, girls soccer on June 23, girls track and field on June 30, and boys track and field on July 6.
