Skyview remains the 5A classification’s only remaining undefeated softball team. And it shows no signs of slowing down.

Analisa Zamora ripped a two-run home run and threw three scoreless innings of relief Friday, leading the Hawks to a 9-3 win at Eagle — their 25th straight victory.

“We just have an end game and ultimate goal that we all want to achieve,” Zamora said. “We all believe in each other and we just all help each other out.”

The defending state champs and heavy 5A SIC preseason favorite continue to prove why they belong at the top. Skyview (19-0, 13-0 5A SIC) had already clinched a league title and the top seed at district Wednesday. Winning by an average of over eight runs a game, the Hawks have relied on players to step up in various roles.

That included Taylor Brewer on Friday. She held a powerful Eagle (11-8, 7-6) lineup to three runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out nine through four innings.

“These girls are really buying into each other and wanting to play for each other,” Skyview coach Tim Souza said. “As long as we’re getting out there and playing our best, then we just surrender (to) the outcome. It’s a lot of fun to be around.”

Eagle threatened to rally when Boise State commit Sydney Groves led off the fifth inning with a solo home run and Hayleigh Oliver followed with a double. That convinced Souza to bring in Zamora, who stopped the bleeding with a bases-loaded strikeout to escape the inning.

“(Brewer and Zamora) just own the circle,” Souza said. “We were really focused on a pitch-by-pitch approach because Eagle has great hitters. If you miss, they’re going to hurt you. So we wanted to make sure each pitch had the focus to get to where it needed to go.”

With a conference title already in hand, the Hawks have little left to play for down the regular season’s home stretch. But they’ve shown no indication they’ll take their foot off the gas.

“This was a (game) that we played well in all three phases of the game: offense, defense and pitching,” Souza said. “This was the best (game) we’ve had overall.”
