Prep recap: Borah’s McCarney fires shutout to spoil Mountain View’s perfect 5A SIC record

BASEBALL

Borah 5, Mountain View 0: Korbin McCarney scattered six hits while firing a complete-game shutout Wednesday, handing the Mavericks their first conference loss of the season.

McCarney struck out four and also drove in a pair of runs to aid his own cause. Ethan Gardner also went 4-for-4 with an RBI for Borah (9-8, 6-5 5A SIC).

Will Grizzle led Mountain View (14-3, 11-1) by going 4-for-4 with a double. The Mavericks had a chance to clinch a state tournament berth with a win Wednesday.

Timberline 4, Eagle 0: Jaydn Volk and Brayden Walls combined to throw a four-hit shutout as the Wolves (13-3, 8-3 5A SIC) picked up a key win to stay in the hunt for a conference and district title.

Cole Casagrande went 2-for-3 for Eagle (6-12, 3-9).

Capital 6, Centennial 5: Trey Bohning drove in the tying run in the bottom of the sixth, then used his legs to force a pair of errors that brought him home on the same play to lift the Eagles (9-10, 4-7 5A SIC) to a come-from-behind win.

Kyle Schabot went 3-for-4 with a double, and Bowen Hobson also doubled for Centennial (9-11, 5-7).

Kuna 10, Owyhee 4: The Kavemen erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a tie and secure a home victory. Brayden Harper, Jaden Estrada and Logan Blades each had two RBIs for Kuna (9-7-1, 4-7 5A SIC).

Jack Ryan and Baylor Haylett both doubled for Owyhee (10-8, 5-6).

Skyview 17, Meridian 1: TerRyck Pennington hit a two-run home run in the first inning and finished with three RBIs as the Hawks rolled to a five-inning victory. Jaysen Bernal and Mason Krahn also drove in three runs for Skyview (13-5, 8-3 5A SIC).

Caleb Boydston and Dylon Goehner doubled for Meridian (1-13, 0-11).

Rocky Mountain 21, Boise 5: Braden Lewis drove in five runs and the Grizzlies (18-2, 11-1 5A SIC) plated 11 in the top of the seventh. Luke Hines, Eli Anderson, Conor Christansen and Jadden Yodder all finished with two RBIs.

Evan Brown tripled, and Hatcher Hild doubled and drove in two runs for Boise (7-12, 3-8).

Weiser 21, Payette 6: Kaleb Grove went 4-for-5 with six RBIs, and Dylan Turrentine and Willy Shirts both drove in three runs for the Wolverines (15-3, 7-0 3A SRV).

Fruitland 12, McCall-Donnelly 1: Landen Mendrive struck out nine while holding the Vandals to one unearned run through five innings, and Jakob Wise tripled and drove in three runs for the Grizzlies (10-8, 6-1 3A SRV).

Homedale 18, Parma 0: Dillon Fine struck out 14 while throwing a three-hit shutout. He also doubled three times as the Trojans (10-8, 3-4 3A SRV) erupted for 11 runs in the top of the seventh to run away.

Nampa Christian 13, Nyssa (Ore.) 0: Landon Mills threw a four-hit shutout through four innings, and Jaydn Curry hit a two-run home run for the Trojans (19-2).

North Star Charter 13, Idaho City 0: Cole Young, Ivan Folwell and Joshua Ineck combined to throw a one-hit shutout for the Huskies (12-2). Folwell also hit a home run.

SOFTBALL

Rocky Mountain 13, Boise 1: Savanna Henzler cranked three home runs, including a grand slam in the fifth inning, en route to racking up seven RBIs as the Grizzlies ran away with a five-inning victory.

Kate Bjorkman also homered for Rocky Mountain (11-8, 5-6 5A SIC), and Chloe Hueth drove in the only run for Boise (5-13, 2-9).

Skyview 16, Meridian 4: Rayann Brown homered and Lily Justesen ripped three doubles as the Hawks (18-0, 12-0 5A SIC) continued their undefeated season with a five-inning rout.

Penelope Klinger and Ashlynn Runnels both doubled for Meridian (2-14, 0-11).

Capital 22, Centennial 0: Allie Laufenburger hit a pair of home runs, drove in five runs and pitched a five-hit shutout in the Eagles’ five-inning win. Maysn Mogel, Grace Wontorcik and Penny-Lew Barnett also homered for Capital (14-5, 7-4 5A SIC) as it plated a season-high 22 runs.

Jazmine Villarreal tripled for Centennial (7-11, 2-9).

Borah 3, Mountain View 2: A two-out bunt in the bottom of the sixth forced an error and scored Keli Kessel for the decisive run in a tight contest. Kessel doubled twice for Borah (9-8-1, 6-6 5A SIC), and Megan Meracle struck out 12 for the win in the pitcher’s circle.

Payton Hollifield went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead Mountain View (11-7, 7-5).

Owyhee 27, Kuna 10: Rylie Haith and the Storm (13-6, 7-4 5A SIC) put on an offensive clinic as Owyhee ran away with a five-inning victory. Haith belted two home runs and a triple, finishing the day 4-for-4 with six RBIs. Mantha Hatzenbeller and Molly Buckingham also homered for the Storm.

Kayli Clark led Kuna (8-8-1, 5-6 5A SIC) by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Timberline 14, Eagle 13: The Wolves (13-4, 8-3) staved off a seventh-inning rally to hold on for a key win atop the 5A SIC standings.

Ashlyn Graklanoff doubled, homered and drove in five runs to pace Timberline, while Kaylee Lewchenko and Alyssa Wilcox each added three RBIs.

Emry Woods went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs for Eagle (11-7, 7-5).

Homedale 19, Parma 1: Olivia Asumendi ripped three doubles and drove in five runs, and Zayne Hall went 5-for-5 with four RBIs as the Trojans (13-4-1, 5-1 3A SRV) rolled.

Weiser 14, Payette 4: Whitney Cordes tripled and drove in three runs, and Tobie Noyer doubled twice as the Wolverines (12-6, 5-1) kept pace atop the 3A SRV standings.
