Winners of the Treasure Valley athlete of the week contests (Feb. 21 to 27)

Voting has closed in the latest Treasure Valley Athletes of the Week contest.

Here are the winners. You can read about all the candidates and their accomplishments below.

  • Boys wrestling: Carson Exferd, Nampa
  • Girls wrestling: Clare Waite, Boise
  • Boys basketball: Talmage Stucki, Middleton

BOYS WRESTLING

Christopher Martino, Bishop Kelly: Rolled to his fourth state title, scoring a 17-6 major decision in the 4A 132-pound finals. The Knights never had a two-time champ before Martino.

Kyle Rice, New Plymouth: Cruised to his fourth consecutive state title by pinning all four opponents he faced en route to the 2A 138-pound title. Only one match made it to the second round.

Tanner Frothinger, Eagle: The junior became the Mustangs’ first three-time state champ since 2008 with the 5A 126-pound championship.

Nico Rodriguez, Columbia: Wrapped up his high school career with his third state title, finishing it with a pin in the 4A heavyweight finals.

Jason Mara, Meridian: The sophomore won his second state title, claiming the 5A 138-pound championship to lead the Warriors to back-to-back team titles.

Cael Palmer, Kuna: Defended his 5A 160-pound state title with a 13-9 win over Centennial’s Logan Taylor.

Aidan Go, Caldwell: Blind in one eye, the senior rallied in the final minute for a 6-5 decision to win the 4A 126-pound state title.

Carson Exferd, Nampa: The sophomore won another state title, taking the 4A 120-pound title and finishing 28-1.

Aden Attao, Borah: Did not give up a single offensive point en route to the 5A heavyweight state championship.

Rylee Willet, Weiser: Scored a 6-0 decision for the 3A 220-pound state title.

GIRLS WRESTLING

Liv Wieber, Eagle: Led the Mustangs to the team title at the first official state tournament, topping Minico’s Frankie Graham for the first time in her high school career for the 132-pound individual championship.

Marissa Jimenez, Caldwell: Wrapped up an undefeated senior season (34-0) with a 6-1 decision for the 138-pound state title.

Clare Waite, Boise: Won the 145-pound state title with a 6-5 victory over Columbia’s Maria Sifuentes.

Hallie Campbell, Columbia: Brought home the 160-pound state title with a second-round pin of Boise’s Ornella Kero.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jack Payne, Owyhee: Averaged 12 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 5.5 steals to lead the Storm to wins in the semifinals and finals of the 5A District Three Tournament, clinching the school its first state tournament berth and district title.

Nate Ojukwu, Mountain View: Racked up 27 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a 59-52, triple-overtime win over Timberline to clinch a state tournament berth. He played 43 of 44 possible minutes.

Blake Hawthorne, Bishop Kelly: Had 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks to lead the Knights to a 51-44, overtime win over Vallivue in the 4A District Three Tournament championship. He averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for the week.

Nolan Bower, Fruitland: Posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies to a 56-36 win over Kellogg in a 3A state play-in game.

Talmage Stucki, Middleton: Scored 19 points to lead the Vikings to a 55-48, overtime win over Blackfoot in a 4A state play-in game.

Cache Beus, Melba: Racked up 18 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in the Mustangs’ 72-56 win over Ambrose for the 2A District Three Tournament title.

Dallin Criddle, Liberty Charter: Had a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 53-46 win over Victory Charter to clinch the Patriots a spot at state in the 1A Division I District Three Tournament semifinals.

Tyler Shipp, Centennial: Recorded 19 points, eight rebounds and two blocks as the Patriots clinched a 5A state tournament berth with a 61-46 win over Meridian.
