Winners of the Treasure Valley athlete of the week contests (Jan. 3 to 9)

Voting has closed in the latest Treasure Valley Athletes of the Week contest.

Here are the winners. You can read about all the candidates and their accomplishments below.

  • Girls wrestling: Mia Furman, Rocky Mountain
  • Boys wrestling: Tanner Frothinger, Eagle
  • Girls basketball: Mikaila Bowlden, Eagle
  • Boys basketball: Luke Thomas, Liberty Charter

GIRLS WRESTLING

Marissa Jimenez, Caldwell: Earned the Rollie Lane most outstanding lightweight wrestler after her third straight title at the meet. She pinned every opponent she faced to win the 132-pound division.

Mia Furman, Rocky Mountain: Was named the most outstanding upperweight wrestler after pinning four of five opponents to win the 138-pound title at Rollie Lane. She pinned a two-time Nevada state champ in 22 seconds in the finals.

Christina Padilla, Nampa: Pinned her way to the 182-pound Rollie Lane finals, which she won via an injury default.

BOYS WRESTLING

Nico Rodriguez, Columbia: The Rollie Lane most outstanding upperweight wrestler earned the honor after topping Borah’s Aden Attao 5-3 in double overtime in the heavyweight finals. It’s his second straight Rollie Lane title.

Tanner Frothinger, Eagle: Won his second consecutive Rollie Lane title with a pin of Post Falls’ Tyson Barnhart after dominating the 120-pound final and building an 18-6 lead.

Christopher Martino, Bishop Kelly: Rollie Lane’s most outstanding lightweight wrestler navigated a loaded 132-pound bracket to win his first title at Idaho’s largest tournament. He beat a three-time state champ (New Plymouth’s Kyle Rice) in the finals and an Oregon State champ in the quarterfinals.

Carson Gooley, Meridian: Made an underdog run to the 195-pound title at Rollie Lane as the eight seed.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Robynn Flowers, Middleton: The sophomore averaged 13.5 points while leading the Vikings to wins over Nampa (65-32) and Emmett (60-34).

Avery Howell, Boise: Averaged 11.7 points and 12.3 rebounds to lead the Brave to league wins against Owyhee, Kuna and Capital.

Grace Reeve, Nampa Christian: Led the Trojans to wins over Ambrose and Marsing while averaging 18.5 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists. She shot 70% from the field and didn’t commit a single turnover.

Sophia Glancey, Timberline: Racked up 17 points, 14 rebounds and two steals in the Wolves’ 36-27 win over Borah to remain undefeated in the 5A SIC.

Austyn Harris, Parma: Recorded a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 52-39 win over Weiser, a key battle in the 3A SRV standings.

Marli Reed, Rocky Mountain: Poured in 21 points to lead the Grizzlies to a 55-41 win over Mountain View.

Kendall Clark, Melba: Racked up 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Mustangs topped Nyssa 54-39.

Mikaila Bowlden, Eagle: Had 16 points and 14 rebounds in the Mustangs’ 54-46 win against Mountain View.

Jacy Parker, Homedale: Scored 21 points to lead the Trojans to a 57-31 win against Payette.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Caden Young, Emmett: Racked up 22 points, 14 rebounds and four steals while shooting 69% from the field and 60% behind the 3-point line in the Huskies’ 60-48 win vs. Nampa.

Jack Payne, Owyhee: Stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a 72-37 win over Skyview.

Javonte Boles, Ridgevue: The freshman posted a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds while adding two assists, two steals and a block in a 61-51 win vs. Columbia.

Jakin Calhoun, Vallivue: Averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Falcons to wins over Emmett and Caldwell.

Luke Thomas, Liberty Charter: Scored 17 points while shooting 5-of-5 behind the 3-point line and 6-for-6 from the floor in the Patriots’ 51-32 win at Murtaugh. The smallest player on the floor also grabbed five rebounds.

Talmage Stucki, Middleton: Had 19 points and five assists to lead the Vikings to a 60-55 win at Bishop Kelly in a battle of 4A SIC co-favorites.

Austin Ramos, Meridian: Sank a last-second runner to lead the Warriors to a 40-39 win over rival Mountain View. Meridian trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half.

Gavin Gordon, Kuna: Recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds in a win vs. Capital, then added 24 points and eight rebounds in a 54-34 victory against Rocky Mountain.

Cache Beus, Melba: Racked up 25 points and 11 rebounds in the Mustangs’ 76-55 win at New Plymouth.

AJ LaBeau, Timberline: Had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals in a 49-39 win against Boise.
