Winners of the Treasure Valley athletes of the week (Feb. 17 to 23)
Voting has closed for the latest Treasure Valley Athletes of the Week contest sponsored by Edmark Toyota.
Here are the winners, and you can read about all the candidates and their accomplishments below.
- Girls basketball: Josey Jones, Tri-Valley
- Wrestling: Kaleb Smith, Meridian
- Boys basketball: Sean Austin, Kuna
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Peyton McFarland, Boise: The senior and Utah signee averaged 15.3 points, nine rebounds and 5.3 blocks to lead the Brave to the 5A state consolation title, their first state tournament trophy since 2016.
Trinity Slocum, Mountain View: The junior averaged 18.3 points, four assists and 3.3 rebounds to lead the Mavericks to the 5A state championship.
Ava Ranson, Timberline: The senior and Montana State signee averaged 19.3 points while shooting 54 percent from the floor to lead the Wolves to the second-place trophy at the 5A state tournament, the program’s best finish since 2004.
Betsey King, Eagle: The senior scored 23 points and sank the game-winning layup with 10 seconds left to lead the Mustangs to a first-round upset of Coeur d’Alene. She also scored 23 points in a victory in the third-place game. She finished second in program history with 425 points this season.
Jade Martinez, Caldwell: The senior averaged 12 points, three rebounds and 1.7 assists to lead the Cougars to a third-place finish at the 4A state tournament.
Adyson Harris, Parma: The senior averaged 15.3 points and 5.7 rebounds as the Panthers won the third-place trophy at the 3A state tournament. She topped 1,000 career points at state and finished with 1,019.
Alyssa Christensen, New Plymouth: The junior recorded two double-doubles at the 2A state tournament, and she hit the game-winning shot with 4 seconds left as the Pilgrims won the consolation title.
Kate Clark, Melba: The junior averaged 11.7 points and two steals to lead the Mustangs to the third-place trophy at the 2A state tournament.
Josey Jones, Tri-Valley: The junior led the Titans to the 1A Division II third-place trophy, the best finish in program history, by averaging 14 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals.

WRESTLING
Malakai Cotton, Mountain View: The freshman and No. 4 seed made a surprise run to win the 5A District Three tournament title. He beat Centennial’s Junior Flores 19-15 in the final, rallying from behind with 30 seconds left.
Josh Mendoza, Timberline: The sophomore pinned every opponent he faced to roll to the 106-pound title at the 5A District Three tournament, his second straight district title.
Angel Rios, Columbia: The senior won his fourth straight district title, scoring a 14-6 major decision for the 4A 152-pound district championship.
Hsee Hsee, New Plymouth: The senior scored his 30th pin of the season in the finals of the 152-pound division at the 2A district tournament.
Blake Beal, Skyview: The senior won the 138-pound title at the 5A district tournament, scoring a 4-0 decision for the championship.
Abe Turpen, Capital: The senior and two-time state champion rolled through the 195-pound division at the 5A district tournament. No match lasted longer than 37 seconds.
Kaleb Smith, Meridian: The junior won the 170-pound division at the 5A district tournament to improve to 34-3. His title helped the Warriors win their first team district championship since 1999.
Dedrick Navarro, Nampa: The freshman won the 4A district title at 98 pounds with an 8-6, overtime decision.
Christopher Martino, Bishop Kelly: The sophomore won his second district title with a 17-2 technical fall in the 106 finals at the 4A district tournament.
Dante Roggio, Kuna: The senior won his third straight 4A district title, pinning Caldwell’s Armando Juarez for the 138-pound championship.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Tyler Robinett, Middleton: The senior shot 21-of-32 from the field, averaging 25.5 points and nine rebounds in a pair of victories as the Vikings wrapped up the 4A SIC regular-season title.
Jimmy Tucker, Salmon River: The junior erupted for 31 points, five assists and four rebounds in Salmon River’s first-round district tournament game against Council. He shot 53 percent from the floor, made five 3-pointers and went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.
Austin Bolt, Borah: The senior racked up a double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lions to a 63-44 victory over Meridian in the district semifinals. The win clinched Borah a state tournament berth.
Townsend Tripple, Rocky Mountain: The senior had 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes as the Grizzlies routed Eagle 68-41 in the district semifinals to clinch a spot at the 5A state tournament.
Paul Yenor, Ambrose: The junior scored 20 points to clinch the Archers a spot in the 1A Division I state tournament with a 59-54 win over Riverstone in the district semifinals.
Hyrum Lindsey, Fruitland: The junior poured in 20 points to lead the Grizzlies to a 78-55 win over Parma to advance to the 3A district championship game.
Sean Austin, Kuna: The junior racked up 19 points and three assists to lead the Kavemen to a 58-44 win over Columbia in the first round of the 4A district tournament.
