Winners of the Treasure Valley athletes of the week (Jan. 13 to 19)

Voting has closed for the latest Idaho Statesman and Edmark Toyota Treasure Valley Athlete of the Week contest.

Here are the winners, and you can read about all accomplishments of all the nominees below.

  • Girls basketball: Madison Hodnett, Liberty Charter
  • Boys basketball: Luke Desrosiers, Victory Charter
  • Wrestling: Miguel Perez, Caldwell

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Zoey Moore, Middleton: The senior set a school record for most 3-pointers in a game, making 9-of-10 en route to 27 points in a 57-23 win at Ridgevue.

Piper Curry, Nampa: The sophomore averaged 16 points and three rebounds a game while making a combined seven 3-pointers in a pair of double-digit wins for the Bulldogs.

Madison Hodnett, Liberty Charter: The junior racked up 35 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Patriots to a win over Compass Charter. She then added 20 points and 12 rebounds in 25 minutes to beat Idaho City.

Trinity Slocum, Mountain View: The junior tallied a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebound to lead the second-ranked Mavericks to a 48-46 win at No. 1 Timberline. She averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds, four steals and 2.5 assists in two wins last week.

Kylie Shumway, Council: The senior shot 63 percent from the field and averaged 14.5 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks in two games.

Gracie Castillo, Garden Valley: The freshman racked up 15 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and a block to lead the Wolverines to a come-from-behind win over Council.

Gemma LaVergne, Emmett: The senior notched a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Huskies to a 56-53 win over Bishop Kelly. She also added three assists and three steals in the victory.

Sarah Ralstin, Greenleaf: The senior recorded a pair of double-doubles last week. She had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a 55-32 win over Adrian, Oregon. She added 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 54-21 win vs. Victory Charter.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Josh Gillespie, Mountain View: The junior had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in a 53-52 loss to Boise.

Cooper Lumsden, Timberline: The junior averaged 15 points, three rebounds and 2.5 assists in a pair of victories for the Wolves. He also sank 8-of-9 free throws down the stretch to seal a 50-45 win over Capital.

Jacob Ankeny, Marsing: The junior helped the Huskies upset No. 1 Nampa Christian with 16 points and 17 rebounds in a 41-34 victory. He then added 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in a 45-34 win over Cole Valley Christian.

Towsend Tripple, Rocky Mountain: The senior recorded a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the No. 1-ranked Grizzlies to a 76-52 win over Meridian in a battle atop the 5A SIC standings.

Tanner Hayhurst, Eagle: The senior racked up 24 points, 12 rebounds and four assists while shooting 9-of-18 from the floor in the Mustangs’ 59-46 win at Skyview.

Donovan Estrada, Nampa: The senior scored 26 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 56-45 win over rival Columbia.

Jimmy Tucker, Salmon River: The junior averaged 22.7 points in three games last week, including 30 points against Tri-Valley.

Joe Mpoyo, Meridian: The senior scored 20 points by sinking 10-of-11 free throws to lead the Warriors to a 72-52 win over Mountain View in the Stinky Sneaker rivalry game.

Luke Desrosiers, Victory Charter: The senior scored 22 points and added 11 rebounds in a 64-29 win at Greenleaf.

WRESTLING

Angel Rios, Columbia: The senior became the Wildcats’ all-time leader in career wins (171) while winning the 152-pound bracket at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational in Idaho Falls.

Mercedes Ellison, Timberline: The sophomore pinned all three opponents she faced in 2 minutes, 39 seconds or less to win the 140-pound girls division at Tiger-Grizz.

Preston Owens, Kuna: The junior won the 145-pound division at Tiger-Grizz, helping the Kavemen capture the meet’s team title.

Miguel Perez, Caldwell: The freshman went 6-0 to win the heavyweight title at the Kiwanis Spring Creek (Nev.) Tournament, improving his record to 35-6.

Lucas Kanownik, Boise: The sophomore rolled to the 98-pound title at Tiger-Grizz, beating Columbia’s Payton Hernandez 6-0 in the finals.

Christopher Martino, Bishop Kelly: The sophomore won every match by pin or technical fall en route to the 106-pound title at Tiger-Grizz.

Charley Hastriter, Capital: The junior followed up his Rollie Lane title by capturing a 220-pound Tiger-Grizz championship with a 12-5 decision in the finals.
