Former Owyhee High, U of Idaho basketball standout announces transfer to Pac-12
Former Owyhee High School standout Jackson Rasmussen is headed to the new-look Pac-12.
Rasmussen, who played three seasons for the Storm in Meridian before transferring to Utah Prep for his senior season, began his collegiate career at the University of Idaho and will have three years of eligibility remaining at Oregon State.
Jeff Goodman, a basketball analyst and founder of the Field of 68, recently announced Rasmussen’s transfer on social media.
Rasmussen was named the Big Sky freshman of the year after starting all 35 games for the Vandals in 2025-26, averaging 13.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He also shot 48.6% from the floor and 32.1% from 3-point range.
With Rasmussen’s help, the Vandals had a breakout season, qualifying for their first NCAA Tournament since 1990 by winning four games in five days at the Big Sky Tournament. Idaho finished 21-16 overall, just its third 20-win season since 1993, losing to Houston in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The revamped Pac-12 will begin competition with the 2026-27 school year and will be comprised of Boise State, Washington State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, Texas State, Gonzaga and the Beavers. The Zags don’t have a football team but are of course a basketball powerhouse, giving the league more punch in that sport.
Rasmussen is the first transfer commitment for new Oregon State coach Justin Joyner, according to Goodman.
