Johnson’s three TDs power Idaho past Idaho State 38-7 after tragic week in Moscow
Roshaun Johnson had three short touchdown runs, Marcus Harris returned an interception 56 yards for a score and Idaho breezed to a 38-7 victory over Idaho State in Holt Arena on Saturday.
The win followed an emotional week for the Vandals, coming six days after the fatal stabbings of four University of Idaho students in Moscow early Sunday. “We’ll be operating with heavy hearts this week,” Vandals coach Jason Eck said on Monday.
Johnson gave Idaho a first-quarter lead with a 2-yard run and put the Vandals ahead for good on a 4-yard run. Harris followed with his pick-six less than two minutes later and Idaho (7-4, 6-2 Big Sky Conference) never looked back against its in-state rivals in the Battle of the Domes.
Johnson scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter and Jack Layne threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Hatten in the fourth to cap the scoring for the Vandals. Anthony Woods carried 16 times for 122 yards.
Tyler Vander Waal’s 49-yard scoring strike to Benjamin Omayebu in the first quarter was the lone score for Idaho State (1-10, 1-7), which has lost four straight.
