College of Idaho baseball clinches national tournament berth
Mitch Skaggs (Capital High) hit the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning of a 3-1 victory over Corban on Saturday in the NAIA West Grouping Championships in Vancouver, B.C.
The College of Idaho (37-19) secured a spot in the NAIA National Championships with the victory and advances to the semifinals of the grouping against British Columbia at 1 p.m. MT Sunday.
Earlier Saturday, the Coyotes used a five-run sixth inning to defeat Marymount California University 10-3. Skaggs went 3-for-6 with two RBIs, while Seth Champlin (Kimberly High) added two hits and three RBIs.
Champlin also hit a game-tying homer against Corban.
The winner of Sunday’s College of Idaho-British Columbia semifinal will face Lewis-Clark State (47-7) in the championship at 4 p.m. MT. An if-necessary game would be Monday.
