He is a Boise State giant. Now an 11-foot-tall statue will honor this QB
Kellen Moore figuratively stands tall among the Boise State football greats, but by the end of the year, he’ll be standing tall quite literally at Albertsons Stadium — 11 feet tall, to be exact, to match his jersey number.
Boise State announced Tuesday evening that it would unveil a bronze statue of Moore later this year outside the Bleymaier Football Center at the northeast corner of Albertsons Stadium. The sculpture will be Boise State’s first of a former athlete, and the university said it would unveil the work during the upcoming football season.
“We’re trying to really pay homage to our past and our present, and what the future looks like,” Boise State Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey said Tuesday.
“There are so many great Broncos. I’m not here without them, we are not here without them. We are built different, and we’re building off their backs, and I’m really excited about what that’s going to mean for Bronco Nation.”
Moore played at Boise State from 2007 to 2011. In his four years as a starter, the Broncos were 50-3. He guided them to a 14-0 season in 2009, beating No. 3 TCU in the Fiesta Bowl to cap off the perfect run, and finished in the top 10 in Heisman Trophy voting for three straight years, including being named a finalist in 2010.
Leaving Boise State as the winningest quarterback in college football history, Moore enjoyed a short NFL career as a backup before turning to the coaching ranks with the Dallas Cowboys. Moore then won Super Bowl LIX as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, and was hired shortly after as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints went 6-11 under Moore last season, and he is back for season No. 2 in 2026.
“The things that he did during his time as a player, as a quarterback, the most difficult position in all sports, in my opinion, is second to none,” former Boise State head coach Chris Petersen told the Statesman earlier this year.
The statue’s creation is already underway courtesy of local sculptor Ben Victor. The sculpture will capture Moore in his iconic left-handed windup in a Boise State uniform and will measure approximately 9-feet tall by itself, and 11-feet once placed upon its pedestal.
The newly announced statue isn’t the only change happening at Albertsons Stadium this season to honor past legends. The program announced in April that it would be permanently painting the hash marks at the 2-yard lines and 11-yard lines in orange to honor former running back Ashton Jeanty and Moore, respectively.
“Such a key for going forward is honor,” Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson said Tuesday. “We’ve got to honor Kellen, which we’re doing today. ... Coach Pete, Ashton, I can name 100 people, players, coaches that we’ve got to find a way to honor.”
