Boise State is installing new blue turf. When? How much does it cost?

Boise State will enter a new era next summer when it joins the Pac-12 Conference, and the football program is dressing to impress.

A brand-new blue turf will be installed at Albertsons Stadium over the summer, swapping out the old Mountain West logos for Pac-12 logos as the Broncos step into their next chapter.

It’s the sixth time the turf has been changed since the original blue turf was installed in 1986, and the first time since 2019.

Boise State spokesperson Chris Kutz told the Idaho Statesman the estimated cost of the renovation will be between $1 million and $1.5 million. The entire cost of purchasing and installing the new turf will be covered by fundraised dollars — in late October, an anonymous donor gifted Boise State $1.5 million to aid in the installation.

Kutz said new turf is being installed because the current turf is approaching the end of its recommended life span.

When will the new turf be installed?

Unlike previous years when the turf was replaced, this time around, the athletic department will have to contend with summer events at Albertsons Stadium.

Boise State athletic director Jeramiah Dickey has made it a priority to generate additional revenue streams for the department, with a focus on bringing events to Albertsons Stadium.

Last summer, approximately 36,000 concert-goers packed into Albertsons Stadium to watch music stars Post Malone and Jelly Roll. And so far in the summer of 2026, Albertsons Stadium is welcoming two major events: the Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live on June 6 and the Banana Ball World Tour on July 31 and Aug. 1.

When does that leave time for renovation of the new turf?

“The estimated date range of installing the new turf is July 2026,” Kutz told the Statesman by email. “It’s currently on track to be after the Hot Wheels Monster Truck Live event but before Banana Ball.”

Unsurprisingly, Boise State is waiting until after the Hot Wheels event to begin installation because up to 14 monster trucks will be flying up and down Albertsons Stadium. Dickey even hinted that there may be blue dirt inside the stadium for the event, something the athletics department would understandably want to keep out of its newly installed turf.

Kutz noted that there’s still the potential for other events at Albertsons Stadium over the summer, making it difficult to pin down a specific installation date.
