Linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence scored two touchdowns in his 11-year career with the Dallas Cowboys after being taken 34th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Boise State.
After just eight games with the Seattle Seahawks this season, he’s already equalled that total — and he managed to do it within the span of one half of football.
Lawrence reached the end zone on a pair of scoop-and-scores in the first half of Seattle’s 44-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Both scores came after Seahawks linebacker Tyrice Knight sacked Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett, forcing a fumble on both occasions that Lawrence picked up and took to the house.
On the first, midway through the first quarter, Brissett dropped back and was hit by Knight as he wound up to throw. The ball popped out of Brissett’s hand and took one bounce before Lawrence caught it in stride and scampered 34 yards to the end zone.
The second touchdown didn’t look much different, with Knight hitting Brissett as he attempted to throw on the first play of the second quarter. This time, the ball fell behind Brissett, and Lawrence was on hand to again snag it in stride and score an uncontested 22-yard touchdown.
As big as Lawrence’s Sunday was, the 33-year-old linebacker hasn’t often found himself in the end zone with the ball in his hands. He scored his first career touchdown against Washington on a 40-yard pick-six in 2021, and got his second after returning a fumble for 19 yards against the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.
He also managed a single touchdown in his two years with Boise State from 2012 to 2013, returning a fumble against Hawaii in 2012 for a 25-yard touchdown.
