Boise State moves up yet again in AP Top 25. See the full poll here
Boise State football will enter the playoffs with its highest ranking in The Associated Press Top 25 since late 2011.
The Broncos were ranked No. 8 in Sunday’s AP Top 25 after beating UNLV 21-7 on Friday to claim a second consecutive Mountain West title. It’s Boise State’s highest ranking since week 15 of the 2011 season.
Because it was conference championship weekend, just eleven teams among the Top 25 played. The Broncos jumped over No. 9 Indiana, which didn’t play, and No. 12 SMU, which lost to No. 13 Clemson in the ACC championship game on Saturday evening.
The College Football Playoff committee released its final rankings on Sunday morning, setting the bracket for the playoffs starting later this month. The Broncos were No. 10 but received the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye — the four byes go to the four highest-ranked conference champions.
No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Georgia got the top positions and byes. Arizona State, which won the Big 12, claimed the No. 4 seed. The lowest-ranked conference champion was the ACC’s Clemson, which got the 12 seed and will play at first-round playoff game at Texas.
In the latest poll, Boise State received 1,108 points, behind No. 7 Tennessee (1,224 points) and ahead of No. 9 Indiana (1,052 points).
