Draft-eligible players from Boise State, College of Idaho will be in spotlight at Pro Day

The next generation of Boise State football players hoping to make it in the NFL will work out for scouts during the Broncos’ annual Pro Day on Tuesday.

At least one Boise State player has been picked in the NFL Draft every year since 2010. The draft-eligible players hoping to continue that trend this year are running back George Holani, offensive linemen Cade Beresford and Ethan Carde, wide receivers Billy Bowens and Stefan Cobbs and long snapper Kolby Tryggestad.

Holani already worked out for scouts, coaches and executives last month at the NFL Scouting Combine. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds, posted a 39-inch vertical leap and put up 225 pounds 24 times on the bench press. He also played in the Hula Bowl in January.

The native of Bellflower, California, finished his five-year college career with 3,596 rushing yards, which ranks No. 5 all-time at Boise State. He posted two 1,000-yard seasons, finishing with 1,014 yards as a freshman in 2019 and 1,157 yards in 2022.

He missed six games last season after suffering an injury in the season opener and finished the year No. 2 on the team with 748 yards and seven touchdowns. Holani missed all but two games in 2020 because of a knee injury, and he was in and out of the lineup because of injuries again in 2021.

Beresford started 27 consecutive games at right tackle for the Broncos the past two seasons. He was named first-team All-Mountain West last season. The 6-foot-6, 308-pounder spent the first four years of his career at Washington State.

Carde (6-8, 311) joined the program last year after three seasons at Texas Tech and one at Coffeyville Community College. He appeared in 13 games last season, lining up at tackle, guard and even tight end in short-yardage situations.

Bowens caught 77 passes for 1,024 yards and five touchdowns during his six-year career with the Broncos. He posted career highs in receptions (32), receiving yards (462) and receiving touchdowns (4) in 2022.

Cobbs appeared in nine games before suffering a season-ending injury last year. He finished his six-year career with 93 catches for 1,187 yards and nine touchdowns. Tryggestad joined the program as a walk-on in 2020 and spent the past few years as a backup.

Last year, he transferred to College of Idaho as a graduate student and led the Yotes with four interceptions. He also ranked No. 3 on the team with 66 tackles and added two sacks in 13 games.

College of Idaho offensive lineman Garrett Rehberg and wide receiver Jon Schofield will also work out at Boise State’s Pro Day.

Pro Day testing will include the bench press (225 pounds), vertical Jump, 40-yard dash, broad jump, three-cone drill and specific position drills. The event is not open to the public.
