One of Boise State’s most productive running backs earns invite to NFL Scouting Combine

Former Boise State running back George Holani will have a chance to improve his NFL Draft stock along with many of the best college football players in the country later this month.

Holani was one of 29 running backs who received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine, which will be held Feb. 26-March 4 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The draft is scheduled for April 25-27.

Holani finished his five-year college career with 3,596 rushing yards, which ranks No. 5 all-time at Boise State. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound native of Bellflower, California, posted two 1,000-yard seasons, finishing with 1,014 yards as a freshman in 2019 and 1,157 yards in 2022.

He finished last season, another beset by injuries, as No. 2 on the team with 748 yards and seven touchdowns. He capped the final season of his career with 138 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos’ loss to UCLA in the LA Bowl, including a 66-yard touchdown run. He finished his college career with 34 total touchdowns (26 rushing, 8 receiving).

Holani played full seasons only twice — and those were his 1,000-yard seasons. Injuries cost him multiple games in both 2023 and 2021, and he even missed games in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. He played in eight games last year; after being injured in the season opener at Washington, he didn’t return to action until Oct. 28. He averaged 99 yards rushing per game in the final seven contests of the season.

Holani is probably the Broncos’ best chance to extend their streak of 14 years with at least one player picked in the NFL Draft. He is one of four players who have declared for the draft, joining offensive linemen Cade Beresford and Ethan Carde and wide receiver Billy Bowens.
