Boise State adds two former D-linemen to coaching staff; Weaver heading to Cleveland
Two former Boise State defensive linemen have landed coaching positions with the Broncos.
On Tuesday, the program announced the hiring of former pass rusher Jabril Frazier as a defensive graduate assistant and the addition of recently graduated lineman Chase Hatada to the strength and conditioning staff.
Frazier couldn’t contain his excitement on Twitter.
“Excited to be back home on the blue to start this new journey,” he posted. “GO BRONCOS!”
Frazier was a two-time All-Mountain West pick at Boise State, earning first-team honors as a senior in 2018. He was second on the team that year in sacks (5.5) and tackles for loss (nine). He posted a career-high six sacks in 2017 and finished his college career with 17.
The Los Angeles native joined the New York Jets last year as an undrafted free agent, but he never appeared in a game.
Hatada’s college career ended just last season as he helped the Broncos win their second Mountain West title in the the past three years. He played defensive tackle and end. Last fall, the Rocklin, California, native finished second on the team in sacks (six) and tackles for loss (13).
Browns claim Weaver
Former Boise State pass rusher Curtis Weaver was waived by the Miami Dolphins on Monday after suffering an injury, but he wasn’t in limbo for long.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns claimed Weaver off waivers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Had he not been claimed, the Dolphins would have placed Weaver on injured reserve.
The Dolphins selected Weaver in the fifth round of this year’s NFL Draft, and in May, he signed a four-year deal worth $3,602,996. He’s expected to get the same deal from the Browns, according to his agent Ron Slavin.
Last fall, Weaver led Boise State with 13.5 sacks. He finished his career as the all-time sack leader in the Mountain West and No. 2 all-time at Boise State with 34.
