Boise State adds international flare to 2023 class with signing of Dutch forward
The Boise State men’s basketball team has added a third freshman signee to its 2023 class.
Emmanuel Ugbo, a Dutch international, joins the Broncos after most recently playing for Riesen Ludwigsburg and Porsche BBA in Germany since 2021, and also for the U20 Netherlands national team.
The 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward appeared in 23 games for Porsche BBA in Ludwigsburg this season, averaging 14.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He shot over 40% from the field to go with 14 blocks and 28 steals. Ugbo scored in double figures in 18 games this season, including five games scoring over 20 points.
Ugbo, who has a 7-foot-2 wingspan, made the switch from soccer to basketball in 2018 at the age of 14, and he has quickly risen in the Dutch national ranks and to Germany’s highest league.
At the 2022 FIBA U20 European Championships, Ugbo averaged 6.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He posted his best game of the tournament against Albania, going for 12 points and 15 rebounds — eight on the offensive glass.
Also new to the Broncos this fall will be UC San Diego transfer Roddie Anderson III, Kansas transfer Cam Martin, and incoming freshmen Andrew Meadow and Chris Lockett.
