Boise State’s Abu Kigab went undrafted. But his NBA dream isn’t over
Abu Kigab’s professional basketball career will begin with the Toronto Raptors in the NBA 2K23 Summer League.
The Boise State alum went undrafted Thursday night but joins the Raptors for the 11-day competition, which features all 30 NBA teams and begins July 7 in Las Vegas.
“I’m really excited for this new chapter of my career,” Kigab told the Idaho Statesman. “It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I can’t wait to continue on this path.”
During his final season with the Broncos, Kigab was at the forefront of Boise State’s historic run to Mountain West regular-season and tournament championships. He averaged 14.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists and was named the Mountain West Tournament MVP.
In Boise State’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015, Kigab dropped a team-best 20 points with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 64-53 loss to Memphis in the first round.
Kigab is a native of St. Catharines, Ontario, and represented Team Canada at the 2017 U19 World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, where he averaged 14.7 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game to help lead Canada to its first FIBA U19 World Cup gold medal.
The Raptors begin summer league action at 1:30 p.m. Mountain time July 9 against the Philadelphia 76ers. The game will be televised on NBA TV. Toronto’s remaining pool-play schedule includes the Chicago Bulls on July 12 (3 p.m., NBA TV), Utah Jazz on July 13 (5 p.m., ESPNU) and Miami Heat on July 15 (8 p.m., NBA TV). All games will be played at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center — the site of the Mountain West Tournament — or Cox Pavilion.
