Boise State senior declares for NBA Draft, adds his name to transfer portal

A second Boise State men’s basketball player has declared for the upcoming NBA Draft, and this one also entered his name in the transfer portal.

Redshirt senior guard Emmanuel Akot — who has an extra year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic — announced on social media over the weekend that he plans to test his NBA Draft stock while maintaining his final year of eligibility.

Akot, who transferred to Boise State from Arizona, also said he plans to explore all his options by entering the transfer portal.

“The last three years have been amazing,” Akot wrote. “Thank you for your endless support and for welcoming me into the program with open arms. I’m extraordinarily grateful to coach Leon Rice, the coaches, and staff of the Boise State basketball program.

“I would like to thank my teammates for pushing me. The brotherhood we created is something I will never forget.”

Akot averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and a team-leading 2.8 assists per game last season as the Broncos won both the Mountain West regular-season and tournament championships. Boise State also set program records for total wins (27), conference wins (15) and consecutive wins (14).

Akot joins teammate Marcus Shaver Jr. in planning to test the NBA waters. Shaver also declared while leaving himself the option to return to the Broncos.

Fifth-year senior Abu Kigab is out of eligibility, while Mladen Armus has not yet said whether he will return for an additional season with the Broncos.
