Boise State basketball adds much-needed depth after losing players to graduation, transfer
A little more than two days after losing a promising young post player to the transfer portal, Boise State men’s basketball picked up a commitment from a 6-foot-10 junior college prospect.
Johnson County Community College center Lukas Milner confirmed Thursday morning that he has verbally committed to the Broncos, who were looking for reinforcements in the paint after redshirt freshman Riley Abercrombie committed to Rice University.
Milner made 32 starts the past two seasons at Johnson County. This winter, he earned first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference honors after averaging 12 points and 7.2 rebounds a night.
He finished second on the team in total points (361) and rebounds (216) and led the Cavaliers with 52 blocks. He also led the team, conference and NJCAA with a field-goal percentage of 71.4.
The Olathe, Kansas, native scored in double digits 21 times this past season and posted eight double-doubles.
The addition of Milner will at the very least give the Broncos some much-needed depth in the post as they’re faced with the prospect of replacing their top three rebounders.
Senior RJ Williams led the Broncos with 8.9 rebounds a game. Redshirt junior Derrick Alston Jr. was second with 5.2 rebounds a night. He has declared for the draft but will maintain his eligibility. Senior Justinian Jessup was third with 4.4 boards a game.
Due to the spread of coronavirus, all National Letter of Intent signings are on hold until April 15, and the Division I basketball signing period, originally scheduled to end on May 20, has been extended to Aug. 1.
Assuming he signs, Milner will join Oregon transfer Abu Kigab and former East Tennessee State forward MLaden Armus in the paint next season.
