Boise State dips into Texas to add first verbal commitment to 2021 recruiting class
The Boise State football team picked up the first verbal commitment in its 2021 recruiting class on Wednesday night.
Inside linebacker Jai Jones from Dallas announced his commitment on Twitter. He’s a three-star prospect and the No. 23 inside linebacker in the class, according to 247Sports’ composite rating, and he chose the Broncos over scholarship offers from programs in the SEC, ACC and Big 12.
“This has been a very exciting journey for me, and I’m excited to see what the future holds,” Jones wrote.
He holds offers from Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech among others, and 247Sports’ Crystal Ball projection had him going to Arkansas.
Jones (5-foot-11, 230 pounds) racked up 84 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks last season at South Oak Cliff High in Dallas, according to Maxpreps.
The Broncos are deep at linebacker this season, but next season will be a different story.
Boise State inside linebackers Benton Wickersham and Riley Whimpey are seniors this season, and N.C. State transfer Brock Miller is joining the Broncos for his final year of eligibility.
