Boise State

She’s the nation’s leading soccer scorer. Now Boise State junior owns the Mountain West record.

Boise State junior forward Raimee Sherle is officially the most prolific goal scorer in Mountain West Conference soccer history.

The Rocky Mountain High graduate scored just 63 seconds into the Broncos’ 2-2 tie in double overtime with New Mexico on Friday night, pushing her career total to 42 goals.

That’s one goal more than the previous conference record of 41, established by Utah’s Amy Kofoed from 1999 to 2001.

Sherle beat two New Mexico defenders and the Aggies’ keeper for the strike in the 2nd minute. Knowing the significance of the moment, her on-field teammates all ran in for hugs, and then Sherle sprinted to the Broncos’ bench to continue the celebration.

The goal also puts Sherle in a tie with Shannon Saxton (2007-10) for Boise State’s career points lead with 92.

Last week, Sherle scored four goals over two games to earn Boise State Athlete of the Week, Mountain West Offensive Athlete of the Week and United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s National Player of the Week.

Sherle continues to pad her NCAA lead with 17 goals this season.

Against the Aggies (6-5-1, 2-2-1 MW) on Friday in Albuquerque, Boise State (10-2-1, 4-0-1) took a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute with a goal from sophomore forward Aubree Chatterton, a graduate of Bishop Kelly. But New Mexico pulled within 2-1 before halftime and then scored the equalizer in the 75th minute.

Neither team found the back of the net in a pair of overtime sessions, resulting in the 2-2 tie in Mountain West action.

Boise State plays at San Diego State at 3:30 p.m. MT on Sunday.
