Florida Everblades sweep Idaho Steelheads for second straight Kelly Cup
The Idaho Steelheads’ record-setting ECHL hockey season came to an end Friday night with a 4-3 loss in Game 4 to the Florida Everblades at Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida.
The Everblades hoisted their second straight Kelly Cup with a 4-0 series sweep of the Steelheads.
During the 72-game regular season, the Steelheads set ECHL records for overall wins (58), points (119), home wins (32) and road wins (26) on their way to winning the Brabham Cup, or ECHL regular-season championship, for the second time in franchise history.
They scored a league-best 290 goals in the regular season, 19 more than any other team, and gave up only 153, which led the league and was 26 fewer than the next-best squad.
On Friday, Idaho fell behind 2-0 in the first period after a pair of breakaway goals by Florida’s Sean Josling, but Ryan Dmowski scored twice in the second period to knot the game at 2-2. Idaho took a 3-2 lead on a goal by captain A.J. White before the Everblades closed out the series with back-to-back goals.
