Bogus Basin will reopen for rare May ski day after ‘stellar’ season
Don’t put away your skis or snowboards yet, Boise. Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area announced Wednesday that it will reopen for a final day on the mountain this weekend — marking only the second time in the ski area’s history when operations have continued into May.
The Bonus May Day event, which is on May 3, celebrates “incredible community support and a stellar snow season,” the nonprofit said on its website. Bogus Basin reached 100 inches of snow at its base on March 20, the nonprofit said.
“Bonus days like this showcase what makes Bogus Basin unique — our unwavering commitment as a non-profit to provide accessible mountain recreation for the Treasure Valley community, even after our season has ended and every other mountain in Idaho has closed,” general manager Brad Wilson said in the news release.
The only other time Bogus has stayed open into May was in 2023, when the season closed May 5. That record year was also bolstered by March snow.
Bogus Basin officials said beginner terrain will be closed during the May 3 event, and terrain off of Deer Point Express, Morning Star Express and Superior Express lifts will vary based on snow conditions.
Skiers and snowboarders with 2024-25 season passes to any mountain ride free, and day passes are also available. Equipment rentals will be available, but lessons will not take place.
