Bogus Basin, Brundage hike season pass prices; Tamarack debuts year-round option
Ahead of Presidents Day, two Idaho ski areas have debuted season-pass sales. Passholders will pay more at Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area this year, while Soldier Mountain near Fairfield offers an extended purchasing window.
Bogus Basin
Bogus Basin’s season-pass sale begins Monday and ends Feb. 29. The Boise-area mountain changed its pass structure this year, offering four main pass types with prices for different age groups.
Buyers can choose from a Spring 2020 pass, which is valid through the anticipated closing date in mid-April; a Winter 2020-21 pass, with access beginning in November 2020; a combination Spring/Winter pass for those who want to finish out this season and plan for next season; and a Nordic pass that’s valid this spring as well as next season.
The structure is a departure from Bogus’ traditional approach of making passes purchased during the sale good for the rest of the current season and all of the next. The change also removes the recent discount for returning passholders.
This year, adults (ages 25-69) will pay $349 for a Winter 2020-21 season pass, $179 for a Spring 2020-only pass, or $419 for a combination pass. Nordic add-ons can be purchased for $25. Last year, an adult pass for returning passholders was $329 and an adult pass that was the equivalent of the new spring/winter combo was $359.
Bogus kept its young adult pass option (ages 18-24) this year. A Winter 2020-21 pass is $229, while a Spring 2020 pass is $120 and a combination pass is $299. When Bogus debuted the category last year, a combination pass cost $229. A new category for college students will be available in August — students enrolled with at least 12 credits can ski Winter 2020-21 for $229.
Prices for teens (ages 13-17) and juniors (ages 7-12) went up slightly from last year. Winter 2020-21 passes for teens run $189; Spring 2020 passes are $99 and combination passes are $239. Junior Winter 2020-21 passes are $89; Spring 2020 passes are $49 and combination passes are $119. Nordic add-ons for juniors are free.
Winter-only passes for children 6 and under stayed the same as last year’s $29 price, though it will cost $39 for a combination pass. Family passes are $1,049 for Winter 2020-21 or $1,299 for a combination. There is no spring-only pass for families.
Seniors (ages 70 and up) will pay $249 for a combination pass — a $50 increase from last year. A winter-only pass is $199, while a spring-only pass is $109.
Night skiing passes remain $99 for winter only, but increase to $129 for a combination pass. Midweek passes are $259 for the winter only and $329 for a combination pass.
Retired and active duty military members pay $199 for a winter-only pass or $259 for a combination pass.
Brundage Mountain
Brundage Mountain also raised prices slightly for the coming season, though its 2020-21 passholders can ski or ride for the remainder of the current season on those passes. The lowest prices for the McCall-area mountain’s sale run from Feb. 17 through March 1. Prices gradually increase through the start of next season.
Most of Brundage’s passes increased by $10 over last year’s prices. Adults (ages 26-69) will pay $399, and young adult passes (ages 18-25) are $239. Junior passes (ages 12-17) are $219.
Youth passes (ages 7-11) also rose to $109, while passes for children (ages 6 and under) bumped up only $5 to $19. Seniors (ages 70 and up) will pay $219.
Family passes are also slightly more expensive this year, up to $1,049 from last year’s $999 sale price.
Never skied at Brundage before? They’re also offering a discounted pass for first-timers that will lower your price to $299.
Soldier Mountain
Soldier Mountain’s sale begins Friday and runs through the end of the current season. Anyone who buys a pass for the 2020-21 season can hit the slopes at Soldier for free through the end of this season.
Adult passes (ages 18-69) are $299; youth passes (ages 6-17) are $149; military adult passes are $239; military youth passes are $105; children 5 and under can ski for $11 with purchase of an adult pass; and senior passes (ages 70 and up) cost $105.
Soldier also anticipates partnership passes with Bogus Basin, Pebble Creek, Brundage and other local mountains.
Tamarack Resort
Tamarack Resort debuted its Boundless Pass on Wednesday. The first round of the season pass sale runs from Feb. 17 through March 2. The 2020-21 season pass also ensures access for the remainder of the 2020 ski season, as well as for spring and summer activities.
In a news release, Tamarack said guests will have plenty to do as the weather warms thanks to several new options. Season passholders can access the resort’s downhill mountain bike park; rent cross-country mountain bikes, standup paddle boards and kayaks for free and take advantage of free yoga classes and guided hikes.
While you’ll get to do more at the Donnelly-area resort this year, you’ll also pay more than last year. Adult season passes (ages 30-60) are $359 during the first round of the sale, a $60 increase from last year. Passes cost $239 for 20-somethings (ages 18-29), $229 for teens (ages 12-17), $139 for juniors (ages 7-11) and $299 for seniors (ages 70 and up). Children’s passes (ages 6 and under) are $10 — down from $15 last year.
College students can buy discounted passes for $169, while military members can purchase $279 passes.
“We’ve reimagined what a season pass can be so our guests can truly experience Tamarack year-round, set free from any limitations,” said Tamarack Resort President Jon Reveal in the news release. “This is about frictionless access to recreation in all seasons from skiing to mountain biking, paddling to hiking to yoga. It all complements the significant investments we’re continuing to make throughout the resort to provide a true mountain destination experience with luxury lodging, restaurant and retail offerings.”
