Local ski areas add inches of fresh powder, expect several more feet this weekend

Ski areas around the Treasure Valley have added several fresh inches of snow as a winter storm moves across Southern Idaho. They can expect even more fresh powder — as much as 3 feet in some places — through the weekend. Here’s what to expect.

Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area

In the past 48 hours, the Boise-area mountain has received 7 inches of snow. The National Weather Service’s Boise branch said in a forecast Wednesday night that Bogus could receive an additional 18 to 24 inches through Sunday.

By Thursday morning, eight of Bogus’ 10 ski lifts were running, and 15 of its 82 trails were groomed. The Nordic Center is open daily, and cross country ski trails are groomed as well.

The Pepsi Gold Rush Tubing Hill will be open for reservations through the weekend beginning Friday morning, and the Glade Runner mountain coaster will open Saturday and Sunday.

Brundage Mountain

Brundage added 3 inches of fresh snow into Thursday morning, and forecasts are calling for another 2 to 3 feet this weekend.

Five of Brundage’s six lifts were open Thursday morning (Centennial Triple Chair was the only lift closed) and only the Bear Terrain Park was closed.

The Activity Barn is also open for tubing, and Nordic and fat bike trails are open.

Soldier Mountain

Soldier Mountain will add up to 18 inches of snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. The Fairfield-area mountain is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. all weekend.

Sun Valley Resort

Sun Valley will see the least amount of snow accumulation, but with 10 to 14 inches in the forecast, there still will be plenty of fresh powder.

All 12 lifts are running on Bald Mountain, including Lookout, which opened on Thursday. Ninety-six trails are open.

On Dollar Mountain, Elkhorn lift remains closed, while all other lifts are operating and 13 trails are open.

Tamarack Resort

Like Brundage, this Donnelly-area mountain is expected to get as much as 3 feet of snow by Sunday. That’s in addition to the 8 inches added in the past 48 hours.

All of Tamarack’s Nordic trails are groomed, and four of its lifts are running, including the recently reopened Wildwood Express. Forty-two runs are open.
