Someone shot an Idaho cow elk and her calf. Fish and Game needs help finding the poacher

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is asking for the public’s help to find information on a poacher that shot and killed two elk in Owyhee County late last month.

According to a news release, a cow elk and her calf were shot around Nov. 22 off of Mud Flat Road near Pole Creek in hunt unit 40. Both animals were left to waste. The adult elk was wearing a radio collar as part of a Fish and Game monitoring study.

Fish and Game conservation officer Jeremy Gaffield, who investigated the scene, is asking for information from eyewitnesses or anyone who knows more about the poaching incident.

Citizens Against Poaching is offering a reward for more information. Anyone with knowledge of the case can call a 24-hour hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers can remain anonymous.

Those with information can also contact the Idaho Fish and Game Nampa office at 208-465-8465 or Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550.

It’s the second elk poaching case in Southern Idaho in recent weeks. A cow elk and a domestic cow were both shot near Leadore on Nov. 27. Both animals were also left to waste.
