To many anglers, Idaho is known primarily for its trout fishing. But did you know the Gem State also offers dynamite fishing for panfish like crappie, perch and bluegill? These species are some of the most enjoyable fish to catch, as they are numerous, great eating and usually found in large schools. If you find a school of hungry panfish, you’re in for an awesome day of catching!

If you want to take your panfish skills to the next level, check out my upcoming Tight Lines 208 fishing class. Panfish School is set for Aug. 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Idaho Rod and Reel tackle shop in Nampa. Participants will receive a bag of panfish gear, expert tips on how to use it and much more as we do a deep dive on all things panfish.

Idaho’s top panfish destinations include nearby C.J. Strike Reservoir (which is home to all three species); Lake Cascade (which grows some of the biggest perch in North America); and countless lakes and small reservoirs that are loaded with bluegill. We’ll cover it all in class! For details and registration, visit www.tightlines208.com. I hope to see you there!
