Fly fishing event is Jan. 9-10
The Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo at Expo Idaho in Garden City is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Fishing experts and local fly shops will demonstrate tying and casting techniques and other fundamentals.

Free boating safety clinic Jan. 16
The class is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Idaho Parks and Recreation headquarters office, 5657 Warm Springs Ave., Boise. The course covers boating laws and safety. Take cross country lessons Jan. 24
The clinic, hosted by the Bogus Basin Nordic Team, is for all skill levels. The sessions are from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration is $42 for one session or $63 for both, not including a Bogus Basin trail pass or equipment rental. Register at bogusbasinnordicteam.com
