More storms on the way to Boise. Here’s when to expect rain, snow and hail

Keep your raincoat and boots nearby.

After persistent rain showers over the weekend, isolated thunderstorms are expected to form over Boise, according to the National Weather Service.

A Pacific storm system will bring “widespread precipitation” to Idaho with rain and high-elevation snow, according to the National Weather Service’s most recent Idaho state forecast discussion.

Gusty winds and small hail are possible, the weather service said, while elevations above 6,500 feet could see moderate snow accumulations.

“Unsettled weather continues this week, with much cooler temperatures and widespread precipitation returning statewide,” the weather service said.

How much rain has Boise seen so far?

Boise had received close to 1.5 inches of rain since Friday as of Monday afternoon, according to Jackson Macfarlane, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Boise office.

And more rainfall is on the way.

According to the weather service’s latest seven-day forecast, Boise could see another quarter-inch to half inch of rain by the end of Monday.

According to the forecast, Boise could get about 2.5 inches of total rainfall from this wave of storms. That includes the possibility of another half-inch downpour on Wednesday.

Did Bogus Basin get more snow?

Bogus Basin ski resort received around 2 feet of snow accumulation over the weekend and is anticipating even more throughout the week.

“This has certainly been an unusual spring storm cycle,” Susan Saad, Bogus Basin director of community and consumer relations, told the Idaho Statesman in an email.

However, the extra snow doesn’t mean more skiing.

Bogus Basin closed for the winter season on March 22, and we will not be reopening for lift-served operations,” Saad said. “Seasonal staff have been laid off, and key on-mountain infrastructure like safety padding and signage has already been removed.”
