Boise can be thankful for a mostly sunny forecast with a low chance of rain this week as a high-pressure system moves in, giving the Treasure Valley a sunny Thanksgiving on Thursday.

While the high temperatures won’t exceed 45 degrees, the forecast shows low winds and minimal clouds, according to the National Weather Service in Boise.

Here is what’s on tap, according to the NWS.

When can Boise expect sunny weather?

Tuesday is expected to clear up by the evening. Boise can expect to receive less than a tenth of an inch of rain, specifically between .05 to .08 of an inch, according to meteorologist Jackson Macfarlane, in the morning and afternoon.

Boise has received over an inch of rain so far this month, according to online weather data from NOAA. The normal amount of rain during November is 0.92 inches, but Boise had 1.32 inches as of Nov. 23.

The high-pressure system moving into the Treasure Valley should push precipitation out of the region for the foreseeable future, Macfarlane said.

“After that stuff moves through Tuesday, it’s going to be clearing going into the long term. By the time we get to Thanksgiving, skies should be mostly clear,” Macfarlane said. “In the 14-day outlook, they’re still expecting us to be drier and warmer than normal. So right now, there is not an end in sight to the high pressure.”

The forecast high for Tuesday is near 44 degrees, with a low of 29 overnight. On Wednesday it will be sunny throughout the Boise area, with light wind and a high of 42. It will get really cold into Thanksgiving morning, with a low of 24.

Thanksgiving is expected to be sunny with minimal clouds, but it will be cold, with a high of 40 and then a low of 23 overnight.

How is it getting colder as it gets sunnier?

The high-pressure system over the valley should mean clear skies for at least the next two weeks. However, the temperature is going to drop, with the highs dipping into the low 40s and even 30s some days.

“There’s going to be a bit of a cold front moving through, and because that flow is keeping a northerly component, it’s coming out of the Northwest and we’re still going to be taking in colder air,” Macfarlane said. “So while under high pressure we would normally get warm, the colder air is actually going to cancel out that warm air and keep us about the same temperature as Tuesday.”
