More rain is forecast for the Boise area. Here’s when, and how much forecasters expect
The Treasure Valley can expect to have a wet weekend as a low-pressure system moves in from the west, bringing moderate rain to Boise and snowfall to the mountains.
While the high temperatures are not expected to exceed 50 degrees, the Sunday forecast shows a break in the rain, according to the National Weather Service in Boise.
Here is what’s on tap, according to the Weather Service.
How much rain can Boise expect?
Saturday is expected to have moderate rain with possible thunderstorms during the morning, before scattered showers during the afternoon. Boise can expect to receive between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts of rain possible during thunderstorms.
Boise has received almost an inch of rain this Novembe as of Thursday, according to online weather data from NOAA. The normal amount of rain during November is 0.79 inches, but Boise has received 0.94 inches.
However, these storm systems are typical for this time of year, according to meteorologist Stephen Parker.
“The system we’ve just finished experiencing was much wetter than an average system. There were places in the mountains that got between two and four inches of liquid equivalent, which would be what you get if you melted all the snow down,” Parker said. “So this most recent storm was very wet, but the storm coming up this weekend is a pretty typical storm.”
The forecast high temperature on Saturday is near 50 degrees and a low of 30 during the night.
Areas in higher elevations can expect to have snowfall as well on Saturday, according to Parker. As a cold front moves through Bogus Basin during the morning, the rain is expected to change into snow. During the afternoon, the ski area can expect to have a mix of scatted rain and snow.
Sunday is forecast to be dry and mostly sunny throughout the day, with high temperature of 47 degrees and a low of 30 degrees. Although there is a low chance of rain and light snow during the evening and into Monday morning, according to the weather service.
The forecast for Monday shows a 30% chance of precipitation during the day, with a higher chance during the evening. The high temperature is expected to be 47 degrees and a low of 32 degrees.
