The sun has come out in Boise, bringing warm weather with it — and it’s here to stay
Temperatures in the Boise area soared to at least 55 degrees, and in some areas 58 degrees, on Thursday afternoon, far exceeding the historical average of 44 degrees for this time of the year. The unusually high warmth came just a day after Boise saw its first day of 2022 hitting at least 50 degrees.
The warm temperatures come in the midst of a prolonged warm spell for the area thanks to a high pressure system. A high pressure system shifted inland off the California coast and over Oregon and Northern California, pushing the jet stream further north and east of Idaho, allowing warm air to come in from the south.
“(The system) is floating over Western Oregon and just shooting the temperatures up, that’s why we’re warming and it’s creating a huge block and pushing the snow into Canada,” Idaho News 6 chief meteorologist Scott Dorval told the Idaho Statesman.
The record high for Boise on Feb. 10 is 64 degrees.
Idahoans can continue enjoying the warm weather into next week. Temperatures will continue to sit in the high 40s and even potentially hit 50 again. By the end of the month, Dorval says, the historical average high temperature for the Treasure Valley will be 50 degrees.
