Woman found tied to tree says armed man left her there for hours, California cops say
A woman found tied to a tree says an armed man left her there for hours, California deputies say.
The woman said she was walking “on a trail in a wooded area” in Pebble Beach at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, when she noticed a “suspicious” man following her, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
“He pulled out a gun,” the woman told deputies.
Then, the woman said he walked her to a nearby tree where he tied her up, deputies said.
The man left and did not injure, assault or rob the woman, according to deputies.
More than two hours later, a man walking nearby heard the woman’s screams for help, deputies told KSBW.
He found the woman tied to a tree and called 911, deputies said. Another person stumbled upon the scene and helped untie the woman.
The woman described the man as being in his 30s with a green hat and gray sweater, deputies said. He also had “a tattoo on the right side of his neck with a word that begins with the letter ‘Z.’”
Despite an “extensive search” by multiple agencies, deputies said they did not find the man.
Deputies said an investigation into the incident is ongoing, adding that anyone with information is asked to contact them at 831-755-5111.
Pebble Beach is about a 75-mile drive southwest from San Jose.
