Bear tries to eat camera and leaves CO homeowners with ‘craziest Ring camera video’
A homeowner in Colorado believes she may know what inspired a bear to try to eat her Ring doorbell camera — and it probably isn’t what you’d expect.
“This is perhaps the craziest Ring camera video captured at our home in Estes Park, CO,” the homeowner said on social media site Threads on Nov. 24.
The video shows the bear approach the camera and sniff at the air as if it caught the scent of something. The video then shows a close-up view of the inside of the bear’s mouth as it tries to get the camera into its jaws.
“We couldn’t believe that the bear tried to eat our camera,” the homeowner said. “Then, my husband remembered. He charged the camera batteries that day and carried them outside in the same coat pocket where he carries treats for our dogs. Oops!”
The homeowner believes the scent of the dog treats lingered on the batteries and attracted the bear to the camera.
“Wow it probably smelled those batteries from a mile away!” someone commented on the video.
“That’s hilarious and terrifying at the same time!” another person said.
“OMG seeing the inside of a bear’s mouth was not what I was expecting,” someone else said. The homeowner replied saying it “really freaked” them out.
They posted another video of a bear getting close to the camera from the same evening. This bear sits down and tumbles backward, and it immediately sniffs at the camera and investigates.
“About a week ago, my Ring camera caught this seemingly drunk bear (or did he eat a ‘special’ brownie? It IS legal in Colorado!)” they said.
“They really seem to like your camera!” someone said.
“I make sure not to feed birds or have garbage out, and we still accidentally brought them to our place. Their noses are SO sensitive!” the homeowner replied.
Estes Park is about a 70-mile drive northwest from Denver.
