A very sweet cat that was abandoned by his family is in need of some extra love and pets, a New York animal sanctuary posted on Facebook.

According to a June 3 post, 7-year-old Max, a ginger tabby, was given to a family member after his people ended up getting a new puppy. Unfortunately, he was then surrendered to a shelter, which asked the Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary to step in and help find the little guy a loving home.

“He is a sweet and easy fellow. Max is confused and a bit sad,” the Facebook post says. “He is used to being part of a family and he misses having a lap to curl up on, a window to sun himself in.”

The rescue wants potential owners to be certain that Max’s next home is for life.

“Max is a cat, not a rubber ball,” the post reads. “Max is a forever boy, not a for right now boy. He is willing to commit to YOU for life. Can YOU commit to him for life?”

Comments poured in from people sending Max kisses while others expressed their frustrations with those who aren’t ready to take on the responsibility of being a pet mom or dad and yet attempt to do so anyway.

“The original owner and family member deserve the same treatment given to Max times 100,” one person expressed.

“I’ll never understand abandoning a ‘loved family member,’” another said. “It’s truly sickening. Especially in this situation. They could’ve trained the dog. Acclimated the animals. Instead they gave up on an animal they supposedly loved.”

“If anyone doesn’t know the wonderfulness of orange tabbies, especially the boy tabbies, now’s your chance,” someone noted.

“Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. They could not have loved this cat. I’m sure someone will come along that he can snuggle with as he purrs with happiness,” one person commented.

Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is located in Poughkeepsie. For more information on Max or any other adoptable pets, please visit the rescue’s website.
