A testament to the very real power of pet microchips helped an Indiana woman happily close a book on a dark time in her life after her dog disappeared.

Samantha Powers thought she lost her emotional support dog Loki forever after going away and leaving him in the care of a friend nearly a couple years ago, according to WPTA and a Facebook post by Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.

“I kind of lost hope after a while,” Powers told WPTA.

Her prayers were answered when Loki arrived at the shelter and was scanned for a microchip, according to the May 30 post.

“It is like music to our ears when we hear our microchip scanner beep ... Loki had a chip!” the shelter said in the post. “We were able to contact his owner and that is when we found out she had been missing him for almost 2 years and could not contain her excitement that we had her baby!”

Powers discovered that Loki had been well taken care of during his missing years, though it’s unclear where he was, and said she’s more than thankful for having Loki microchipped, WPTA reported.

“The microchip was a lifesaver,” she told the outlet. “Without that, I wouldn’t have gotten my boy back.”

Commenters on the Facebook post shared how much they loved the reunion — and how it brought them to tears.

“I was there when they were reunited, it was so neat to witness. Everyone there had tears!” one person said.

“This is the best video on the internet. How beautiful!” another commented.

“What a beautiful reunion. My heart would be shattered if I was separated from one of mine like that. Congrats to the reunited family and Loki,” someone wrote.

Fort Wayne is about a 120-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
