Interstate 84 crash near Nampa leaves one juvenile dead, others injured

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Nampa left one juvenile dead and others in the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The crash near milepost 39 was one of two accidents on I-84 that heavily affected traffic for hours ahead of the long Thanksgiving weekend, police said.

A news release from the Idaho State Police said that just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, a GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 31-year-old male was going west on I-84 when it rear-ended a Ford F450 Box Truck driven by a 21-year-old-male.

The box truck had an adult passenger, while the Sierra was carrying more than one juvenile passengers. The occupants of the Ford truck were left uninjured, ISP said, but a juvenile in the GMC truck died at the scene, and three of its occupants were taken to a local hospital.

The ISP release said traffic was blocked for about three hours, and westbound drivers were instructed to exit I-84 at Ten Mile Road in Meridian while all westbound lanes were closed. They reopened after 7 p.m.

Police are still investigating the crash, according to the release.
