Idaho Highway 21 remains “closed until further notice,” because of a major avalanche risk, according to Idaho 511.

The road is closed from milepost 93.7 to milepost 105.5, from Grandjean to Banner Summit, according to Idaho 511.

The same section of the highway closed earlier this month after an avalanche, according to previous Statesman reporting. The Idaho Transportation Department announced the road was open again on Feb. 13, according to the department’s Facebook page.

“More than 23 avalanches hit the road, with depths ranging from 5’ to over 50’! A huge shoutout to our incredible avalanche team and maintenance crew for their work over the past week to clear the snow,” the department wrote on Facebook earlier this month. “Drive safe and stay alert on the road!”

The Idaho Transportation Department did not immediately respond to a question about when the highway would reopen this time around. In a Monday post on Idaho 511, the transportation department said it would reassess the road conditions at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
