Pickup slides off I-84 in Meridian and kills man, 67, whose own pickup had just slid off

A 67-year-old Boise man is dead after being hit by another vehicle on Interstate 84 in Meridian Wednesday afternoon, according to the Idaho State Police.

Driving a pickup truck eastbound on I-84 near the Meridian Road exit around 3:47 p.m., the 67-year-old’s truck slid off the road and into an area between the highway lanes and an on-ramp, according to a news release.

The man had gotten out of his vehicle when a second pickup truck, driven by a 34-year-old Boise man, “left the roadway, struck the 67-year-old man ... and rolled,” the release said.

The older man died at the scene. The younger man, who was wearing a seat belt, was not taken to a hospital.

Two lanes of I-84 were blocked Wednesday afternoon for about two hours.

An accumulation of nearly 3 inches of snow led to a number of accidents in the Treasure Valley on Wednesday. State police responded to 23 slide-offs and 31 crashes on I-84 between Payette, Canyon, Ada and Elmore counties.
