Three people robbed a Boise bank. Their prison sentences total nearly 100 years
The mastermind behind a Boise bank robbery that included a fake call about an active shooter received his sentence Friday from 4th District Judge James Cawthon, according to a news release from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office.
Edward Prescott, 51, was sentenced to 35 years in prison — with no possibility of parole until after 15 years — on the heels of his conviction by jury on April 16 of a robbery that occurred at an Idaho Central Credit Union in Boise on Feb. 27, 2025.
Prescott was the third of three defendants in the case to be sentenced. Eddie Belen pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to 40 years, with 20 years fixed, while Brittany Marcum was found guilty of robbery by a jury and sentenced to 20 years indeterminate.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Belen entered the bank wearing a motorcycle helmet and mask, and demanded cash from an employee at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Marcum called 911 to report a fake active shooter at a store 7 miles away, hoping to divert police attention elsewhere.
Prescott, who planned the robbery and was on parole at the time, served as the getaway driver, prosecutors said. The pair made off with $1,500.
The motorcycle the two used to flee the robbery was later spotted by a Boise police officer at a nearby apartment complex with the “engine still warm,” the release said. The owner of the bike told the officer that he had sold the bike to Prescott.
“From there, surveillance footage pieced the rest together: Prescott and Belen together at a bar just after the robbery, then returning to a hotel where Marcum was waiting,” the release said.
Marcum later confirmed to investigators that Prescott and Belen left the bank on the motorcycle together, and told police that Belen threatened her into making the false 911 call.
“You take part in a plan that draws resources from the largest police department in the state of Idaho on one of Idaho’s busiest roads. ... And all the angst associated with that and the law enforcement response,” Cawthon said to Prescott during sentencing.
“What do you think those officers were thinking as they were about to run into bullets? And all this for $1,500?”
The Boise Police Department and the FBI worked together to build the case against the trio, according to the prosecutor’s office.
“This was a coordinated, calculated robbery carried out by three people who thought they could outrun the law,” Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts said in the release. “Prescott’s conviction closes out this case and ensures that everyone responsible for this crime has answered for it.”
