A man accused of attacking someone and firing a gun inside a Boise home in December avoided prison time after he pleaded guilty to unlawfully discharging a firearm.

An armed standoff with police preceded the arrest of 35-year-old Christian Wood, who fired a weapon and allegedly attacked a person he knew before refusing temporarily to cooperate with law enforcement.

Wood was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of use of a deadly weapon in commission of a felony and one count of unlawful discharge of a weapon in a home.

In February, Wood pleaded guilty only to the unlawful discharge count as part of a plea deal. Fourth District Judge Joseph Borton sentenced him up to eight years of felony probation, with one year fixed. He also must complete 100 hours of community service as part of his sentence.

The other three charges were dismissed by motion of the Ada County prosecutor.

On Dec. 11, deputies were called to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise after a patient asked to speak with law enforcement, according to a news release. Deputies said they were told that Wood attacked the patient at a Boise home, fired a gun and then pointed the gun at the victim.

Wood was found by law enforcement at a home on West Fox Fridge Drive, according to the release, and he refused to be arrested and said he would “challenge” them. The Ada County Crisis Negotiations Team contacted him, and during negotiations he implied that they would have to use lethal force, the release said.

The Ada County SWAT Team was called in, and Wood eventually agreed to exit the house, but he didn’t follow the deputies’ instructions, the release stated. He instead exited through a window and jumped into a neighboring yard, where several deputies were waiting.

Wood was found armed with an AR-15, a handgun and ammunition, according to the Sheriff’s Office, but deputies were able to take him into custody without further incident.

He was held at the Ada County Jail on a $500,000 bond, court records showed. After his sentencing on April 9, he was released to serve his probation, Idaho Department of Correction records showed.
