A court hearing and documents revealed a little new information about a sexual abuse case involving a former Boise School District bus driver.

Kayden Peterson, 29, of Boise, was charged with two counts of lewd conduct with a child, one count of sexual battery of a child and one count of sexual abuse of a minor, according to the criminal complaint

The Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office alleged in its complaint that Peterson sexually abused a child starting when the victim was 9 or 10 until the age of 16 or 17.

Peterson had a “prior personal connection to the victim unrelated to his employment,” an Ada County Sheriff’s Office news release said.

“The allegations in this case are of the highest magnitude, alleging continuous habitual sexual abuse of a minor over several years,” a prosecuting attorney said during Peterson’s arraignment Wednesday. “The defendant presents one of the most serious dangers to society.”

District Judge Adam Kimball set Peterson’s bail at $500,000 and issued a no-contact order preventing Kimball from reaching out to the victim.

Peterson drove Boise students for bus provider Durham School Services. The Boise School District told parents in a Tuesday message that it had notified Durham that Peterson was no longer allowed to work under their contract.

The Boise School District said it had “received no reports of any kind” about Peterson. All district buses are equipped with cameras, the district said.

“We take this matter very seriously and are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our students,” the district’s message said.

Anyone with information about the suspect or case is asked to contact Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790 or email tips@adacounty.id.gov.
