Man accused of aiming gun at Mountain Home students faces assault charges
Update (April 21, 2026): All four of the charges aganist Ross Allen Lee were dismissed on April 20, 2026, because of his death, according to the Elmore County Prosecutor’s Office.
After police received a report of someone pointing a shotgun at Mountain Home High School students, a man was charged with aggravated assault and animal cruelty.
On March 13, the Mountain Home Police Department along with Idaho State Police responded to the corner of South 10th East Street and East 4th South Street near the high school, where they found a suspect later identified as 63-year-old Ross Allen Lee. Law enforcement took Lee into custody without incident, according to a press release from ISP.
No one was injured during the incident, responding police agencies reported, even when an officer’s firearm accidentally discharged.
Several schools in the area, including Mountain Home High, were placed on lockdown during the incident as a precaution.
According to court records, Lee has been charged with three counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of animal cruelty, which is a misdemeanor.
During the clearing of the incident, one officer’s firearm accidentally discharged. The ISP release stated that the accidental discharge occurred inside an ISP patrol vehicle.
ISP is conducting an internal administrative review of the discharge.
Allen posted bond. His preliminary hearing is set for March 27 at 2 p.m. in front of Elmore County Judge Brent Ferguson.
