A man allegedly aimed gun at Mountain Home High students. Police make arrest
The Mountain Home Police Department made an arrest Friday after receiving a report of an armed suspect near the local high school.
Police said no one was injured during the incident, even though a police officer’s gun accidentally discharged later.
Just after noon, authorities said they received a report of a man pointing a shotgun at students near Mountain Home High School, according to a police press release. The incident happened near the corner of South 10th East Street and East 4th South Street.
The high school and other nearby schools were immediately placed on lockdown, the release said. Mountain Home police, along with the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police, responded and secured a perimeter, according to the release.
Law enforcement said they found an adult male who was a suspect and detained him, and after some investigation, that man was arrested.
As police were clearing the scene, an officer “experienced an accidental discharge of their weapon,” according to the release, but no one was injured.
Police said in the release that there was no ongoing public safety threat, and that the Elmore sheriff’s office would continue to investigate.
