Idaho Humane Society offers reward for info on 5 puppies shot near Ontario

The Idaho Humane Society is offering a reward for information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for shooting several puppies in eastern Oregon, according to a news release from the organization.

The news release said five puppies were found shot and dumped near Malheur Butte, a mountain about 6 miles west of Ontario, Oregon. A Facebook post from the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the shooting, said a sixth puppy survived.

The post described the dogs as “chiweenies,” or chihuahua/dachshund mixes, estimated to be around 8 or 9 weeks old.

CASPR dog rescue in Weiser is fostering the surviving puppy, officials said on Facebook. The rescue said in a social media post that the surviving puppy did not have any gunshot wounds.

The Humane Society is offering $1,500 for information that leads to the prosecution and conviction of those responsible for the shootings, the organization’s news release said.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Malheur County dispatch at 541-473-5125. Anonymous tips can be left by referencing case 25S8574.
