27-year-old Idaho woman charged in Kuna car crash that left cyclist dead

The driver who allegedly struck and killed a 67-year-old bicyclist in Kuna last fall has been charged with two felonies over a year later.

Cameron Watson, who was driving southbound on Black Cat Road, hit Ross Masson with her car as he rode near the white line on the shoulder of the road on Sept. 13, 2024, according to Ada County authorities. Masson later died, according to previous Idaho Statesman reporting.

Watson, 27, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated reckless driving, according to online court records and the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office. If found guilty of reckless driving, she faces up to 15 years in prison. The penalty is up to five years for leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death.

Watson has driving issues in her past, according to online court records. In 2016, she was found guilty of speeding, among other things. She also pleaded guilty that year to inattentive driving, though the charge was later dismissed by the court.

In 2017, she pleaded guilty to driving without privileges, among other charges, and her license was suspended.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office initially denied the Statesman’s records request in the spring for Masson’s name and cause of death, citing an active investigation. The office often identifies people who die in public soon after an incident.

After an attorney for the Statesman sent a letter questioning the denial, the coroner’s office released the man’s name, saying they had finished the investigation.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office said in April that Masson died of traumatic blunt force injuries, and the manner of death was listed as an accident.
