Two officers with the Nampa Police Department shot and injured a teenager on Halloween night after he allegedly attacked his mother and threatened law enforcement.

Officers were called to a disturbance in a park near the intersection of 21st Avenue South and Second Street South in Nampa at around 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the agency. The teenager, who hasn’t been identified, was “violently attacking” his mother, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, the teen’s mother was outside “with obvious injuries,” and the teen had gone into their home, which was in the same area, the release said. Officers went to the front door of the home to contact the teen, and he “aggressed” at them with a knife, according to Nampa police.

Two officers shot at him, striking him in the abdomen and both arms, the release said. Officers immediately rendered first aid once the teen was disarmed, and he was taken to a hospital. The teen is in serious condition, according to the release.

The mother also was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured, police said.

The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is leading the outside investigation into the shooting as part of the county’s Critical Incident Task Force. This is the second police shooting involving the Nampa Police Department this year. In September, officers shot and injured 22-year-old Ian Glass.
